Yard Associate /
Forklift Operator.

Outdoor work, real lumber, and a crew that actually works as a crew. Load trucks, pull orders, stage flatbed deliveries, and help walk-in customers find product. Forklift certified or we'll certify the right hire: standup, sit-down, and Moffett piggyback. The yard is where Midway's promises become real deliveries.

The Midway Supply yard, flatbeds and racks where yard associates work
Card 01

The Yard is the Heart of Midway.

The yard is where every order finally becomes a real delivery: pulled, banded, staged on the right flatbed, and out the gate to the job. Yard associates are the people who make that happen. It's outdoor work, it's physical, and the days are real days. In return: a maintained fleet of forklifts and Moffetts, lumber that comes in clean and stocked right, and a crew that actually works as a crew.

Walk-in customers find their way to the yard with a question and a half-built idea, and a yard associate is often the person who points them at the right product and gets them moving. It's a frontline job that matters.

Card 02

Forklift Certified, or We'll Certify You.

Standup forklifts in the racks. Sit-down forklifts on the flatbeds. Moffett piggyback forklifts on the trucks for at-the-jobsite drops. Existing certifications are a plus, but we will certify the right person on the equipment we run. Training is taken seriously. Bad habits behind the wheel of a forklift turn expensive fast, and we'd rather pay to train you right than fix what a bad fork operator broke.

Card 03

Build a Career, Not Just a Shift.

Plenty of Midway's drivers, inside sales reps, and yard supervisors started in the yard. The yard is where you learn lumber grades, customer rhythms, and the way an order actually flows from quote to delivery, knowledge that opens doors into dispatch, sales, design, or the cab of a Moffett truck if that's where you want to go. Tell us where you want to land. We'll help you get there.

Position Detail

Yard Associate / Forklift Operator

Pay & Benefits

We keep it competitive and we're honest about it. Pay, time off, and benefits get walked through when we sit down together, matched to your experience and what you bring.

Schedule

Standard yard hours: Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–5:00 PM, Saturday 7:30 AM–12:00 PM. Earlier starts when a big delivery is going out at first light. Closed Sundays. Longer days when storm season or new-construction season runs hot, usually known a day or more ahead.

Key Duties

Load and unload trucks safely and accurately. Pull orders from the racks and stage them for delivery or will-call pickup. Operate forklifts (standup, sit-down, Moffett piggyback) per training and certification. Help walk-in customers identify product and load it into trucks and trailers. Keep the yard organized: restock returns, rotate weather-sensitive product, and flag damaged loads to the office. Maintain a clean, safe yard: housekeeping matters here. Coordinate with inside sales and dispatch on order priorities and delivery sequencing.

Physical Requirements

Routinely lift, carry, and handle 50+ lbs; occasional 75–100 lb lifts with a partner or fork. Stand and walk for the full shift. Work outdoors in Tennessee summer heat and winter cold. Climb on and off equipment safely. Steel-toe boots required. Personal protective equipment (gloves, eye protection, high-vis when needed) provided.

Experience We're Looking For

Lumber yard, building supply, big-box retail freight, warehouse, or moving/logistics experience all transfer well. Forklift experience is a strong plus. The non-negotiables are reliability, attention to detail, willingness to learn the product, and the kind of customer instinct that keeps a walk-in shopper from feeling lost in a yard full of materials.

Requirements

18 or older. Valid driver's license and clean MVR (you'll occasionally move trucks around the yard). Drug test and background check. Willingness to be cross-trained on multiple pieces of yard equipment. Comfortable being part of a small team where everyone knows your name.

"The yard is where the rest of this place gets paid. Take care of the loads, the customers, and the equipment, and the rest of the team will take care of you."
