What you are paying for
The four or five things that separate the product that lasts from the one that looks the same on the truck. Each ends with a "check it on the sample" box.

The label, the code report, and the warranty, read slowly. The words to look for are years and transferable.

How do I know if a building material is good quality before I buy it?
Ask for the sample and the spec sheet, then check the sample against the sheet. Every lesson on this page ends with a "check it on the sample" box that tells you what to press, flex, weigh, or read. If a supplier cannot produce a sample or a spec sheet, that is your answer.
Why does Midway teach this instead of just quoting the cheaper product?
Because the cheaper product is not always the cheaper house. A window that fogs at year eight, a deck frame rotting under a fifty-year board, or a roof that comes off at year twenty: those costs never show up on the bid. We would rather you know what you are buying and choose on purpose. We sell every tier on these pages and we will quote whichever one fits the house.
Are the cost calculators using Midway prices?
No. There are no prices on this site. Every calculator runs on two quotes you type in yourself, plus the years you plan to own the house and the failure or upkeep numbers you believe. Nothing is sent anywhere; it runs in your browser and prints so you can hand it to whoever is funding the build.
Where do the product facts on these pages come from?
From the makers' own published literature: spec sheets, installation guides, warranties, and code reports. Each figure names its source. Where a maker does not publish a number, the page says so instead of guessing.
