Nichiha and James Hardie. Won't burn, rot, or warp. Best long-term performance for Tennessee weather. Nichiha stocked deep in our yard.

  • Engineered Wood

LP SmartSide. Treated wood strands under a bonded overlay. Cuts and nails like wood, comes primed or factory-finished, and carries a 50-year prorated warranty.

  • Vinyl

Most replacement work. Never painted, color through the material, insulated backers on some lines, and deep color libraries.

  • Wood (Cedar, Pine)

Traditional cedar lap and shingle. Premium aesthetic, requires regular finish maintenance.

  • Metal (Steel & Aluminum)

GingCo Board & Batten and ribbed-panel siding, soffit, and trim in 20+ colors for commercial, modern residential, and barn builds. Quoted to order.

Performance & Climate

Specs that matter in Tennessee.

  • Hail

LP SmartSide carries a 50-year hail clause in its warranty; James Hardie warrants that its board resists hail. Both are insurance-first; read the clause before you count on it.

  • Fire Rating

Fiber cement is non-combustible. Important in close-set neighborhoods and where wildland-interface codes apply.

  • Finish Warranty

15 years on LP ExpertFinish and James Hardie ColorPlus factory finishes, each with a fade number in it. Field-painted is on the painter.

  • Tennessee Climate

James Hardie HardieZone 5 is the spec for Middle TN humidity and temperature swing.

  • Wind & Storm

Wind speeds come from the code reports (ESR-1301, ESR-2290, CCRR-0258) at a stated nail and stud spacing. We help spec the fastening pattern the number depends on.

Frequently Asked

Siding questions, answered.

What is the difference between OSB and plywood for sheathing?
OSB (oriented strand board) is engineered from wood strands aligned and pressed with resin; plywood is built from cross-laminated wood veneers. For wall sheathing, OSB has largely replaced plywood: it's less expensive, dimensionally consistent, and structurally equivalent under building code. Plywood resists swelling at cut edges better, so it's often preferred for roof sheathing in wet climates and for sub-floor in high-moisture areas. Both are stamped APA structural-rated. Midway Supply stocks both for Middle Tennessee construction.
What is structural sheathing and what thickness is required?
Structural sheathing is the panel material installed over wall studs or roof rafters that adds shear strength to the building (resisting lateral wind and seismic loads) and provides a nailing surface for siding or roofing. For 2x4 walls, 7/16″ OSB is the residential standard; 2x6 walls often use 1/2″. Roof sheathing is typically 7/16″ to 5/8″ depending on rafter spacing and snow load. Tennessee energy code may also require continuous insulation over the sheathing. Midway carries OSB and plywood in all common sheathing thicknesses.
What is the difference between fiber cement and engineered wood siding?
Fiber cement (Nichiha and James Hardie are the leading brands) is made from cement, sand, and cellulose fibers: non-combustible, highly weather-resistant, and dimensionally stable for 30+ years with proper installation. Engineered wood siding (LP SmartSide is the dominant brand) is made from wood strands or fibers bonded with resin and treated for moisture and termite resistance: lighter, easier to cut and install, but requires more careful installation around moisture details. Both accept paint and come in textures mimicking wood lap, shake, or panel. Midway Supply carries both, and stocks Nichiha fiber cement in depth.
Does Midway Supply stock Nichiha fiber cement siding?
Yes. Nichiha is the fiber-cement line Midway Supply stocks in depth: lap and panel profiles on hand in our yard, ready for pickup or delivery without waiting on a factory lead time. Special-order profiles, Nichiha's Architectural Wall Panels, and color-matched trim and accessories come through our direct Nichiha account. Nichiha fiber cement is non-combustible and dimensionally stable through Middle Tennessee humidity and temperature swing.
What is HardieZone 5 and why does it matter for Tennessee?
HardieZone is James Hardie's climate-engineering system that matches fiber-cement siding formulations to regional weather patterns. HardieZone 5 covers the Southeast US including Tennessee: siding engineered for high humidity, wide temperature swings, severe weather, and termite pressure. Siding shipped to non-HZ5 specifications may not perform as warranted in Tennessee conditions. Midway Supply ships HardieZone 5-spec product to Middle Tennessee job sites.
What is house wrap and how is it installed?
House wrap is a synthetic water-resistive barrier (WRB) that goes over wall sheathing and behind siding, designed to block bulk water while letting water vapor escape from inside the wall. Common brands include Tyvek, ZipSystem (integrated with sheathing), and Henry Blueskin. House wrap is installed with overlapping seams (top sheets over bottom, side seams 6 to 12 inches), taped at all penetrations, and integrated with window flashing per manufacturer detail. Midway carries house wrap and sheathing tape alongside structural panels.
Does Midway sell metal siding?
Yes. Midway Supply sells metal siding, soffit, and trim through GingCo Supply, a metal-panel manufacturer in Burkesville, Kentucky. The siding lineup is GingCo's Board & Batten vertical profile in 29 or 26 gauge plus Tuff Rib and PBR ribbed panels, rolled in more than 20 Sherwin-Williams WeatherXL colors. Metal siding suits modern and commercial buildings, barns, and outbuildings, and pairs with GingCo metal roofing for a matched envelope. Midway keeps a limited quantity on hand at the yard; most metal siding is quoted to order with the lead time confirmed on the quote.
What is the typical lifespan of vinyl siding?
Vinyl siding typically lasts 30 to 40 years with normal weathering, with most manufacturer warranties running 25 to 40 years (some lifetime-limited). Color fade is the most common aging issue; modern vinyl uses fade-resistant pigments and capstock layers to slow it. Premium vinyl with insulated backers lasts at the upper end of that range and provides a small R-value boost. Royal and CertainTeed are common vinyl-siding lines at Midway Supply.
