Why Midway for Trusses

Engineering, build, and delivery, under one PO.

01: Partner-Engineered

Stamped, sealed, on-spec.

Truss design and engineering performed by our partner truss company (load calcs, layouts, stamped drawings) coordinated through Midway as a single PO.

02: One Point of Contact

Quote it, order it, deliver it.

You don't manage the truss vendor. Midway coordinates engineering, build, delivery, and warranty, all through one rep.

03: Delivered on Midway Trucks

Set where the framers want them.

Trusses arrive on Midway flatbeds with Moffett offload: placed on the deck, on a ground stack, or staged for the crane.

Truss Types

Standard and custom geometries.

Common Roof Trusses

Standard pitched roof trusses for residential and light commercial. Heel heights and pitches matched to your plan.

Scissor Trusses

Cathedral and vaulted-ceiling profiles. Coordinated with insulation R-value spec.

Hip Trusses

Hip-set packages including girder, jack, and corner trusses.

Gable Trusses

End-wall gables with vertical webs for cladding attachment.

Floor Trusses

Open-web floor trusses for utilities pass-through. Pairs with the engineered-wood floor package.

Specialty & Custom

Attic trusses, room-in-roof, dual-pitch, and custom geometries on request.

How a Truss Order Works

From plans to deck-loaded.

  1. Step 01

    Send the plans.

Roof plan, ridge heights, pitches, span. Hand sketches welcome. We coordinate with the truss engineer.

  2. Step 02

    Engineer & quote.

Partner truss company runs load calcs, generates layouts and stamped drawings. We return an itemized truss quote.

  3. Step 03

    Approve & build.

You approve the package; trusses get built at the partner shop on the schedule that matches your framing.

  4. Step 04

    Deliver to the deck.

Trusses arrive on Midway flatbeds: set on the deck, ground-staged, or crane-placed where access allows.

Frequently Asked

Truss questions, answered.

What is a roof truss and how is it different from rafters?
A roof truss is a pre-built, engineered triangulated framing assembly that spans the building from wall to wall in one piece. Rafters are individual angled framing members that run from the ridge to the eave, requiring on-site framing of the supporting structure. Trusses are factory-built with predictable engineering, install faster, and span longer distances without intermediate support. Stick-frame (rafter) construction allows more flexibility in attic use and complex roof geometries but takes more labor. Midway Supply coordinates trusses through a partner truss company; stick-frame lumber is stocked at the yard.
How long does a roof truss order typically take?
Standard residential truss packages run about 3 to 6 weeks from approved engineered drawings. Complex orders (large hip-set packages, scissor trusses, or custom geometries) typically run 6 to 10 weeks. The first week or two are engineering and approval; the rest is shop fabrication time. Lead times vary by truss-shop volume and season (build season = longer lead times). Midway provides current shop lead times when quoting.
What are common, hip, scissor, and gable trusses?
A common truss is the standard symmetric pitched-roof truss spanning wall-to-wall. A hip truss is part of a hip-set package: a series of stepped-down trusses that form a hip-roof corner instead of a gable end. A scissor truss has angled bottom chords that create a vaulted or cathedral ceiling under a pitched roof. A gable truss is the end-wall truss with vertical web members, used for cladding attachment at gable ends. Midway coordinates all four types through the partner truss engineer.
Can roof trusses be modified or cut in the field?
No. Roof trusses are engineered as complete assemblies. Every member, joint, and metal connector plate is sized to a specific load case. Field-cutting any truss member voids the engineering and can lead to failure. Modifications must go back through the truss engineer, who issues a stamped repair detail. If a truss is damaged in delivery or install, contact the supplier immediately for the engineered repair specification. Midway coordinates engineering reviews through its partner truss company.
Do I need engineered drawings for roof trusses?
Yes. Building codes require stamped truss design drawings on file with the building department before inspection. The truss engineer generates these (placement plans, individual truss profiles, member sizes, and connector plate specs) based on the architect's roof plan plus loads (snow, wind, dead load, live load). Drawings are part of the truss order and ship with the trusses. Midway delivers stamped drawings with every truss package.
What is a floor truss and when is it used instead of I-joists?
A floor truss is an engineered open-web horizontal framing member: top and bottom chords with diagonal webs creating triangular openings. The open webs let plumbing, HVAC ducts, and electrical run through the floor structure without notching or boring. Floor trusses are typically deeper than I-joists for the same span, but the routing flexibility often saves trade labor and ceiling height. They're common in commercial buildings, multi-family construction, and high-end residential where utility routing matters. Midway coordinates floor trusses alongside the partner truss engineering.
